Rig Ved - First Mandal, First Sukt, 1-9 Mantr

Max Muller and Ralph T.H.Griffith
I Laud Agni, the chosen Priest, God, minister of sacrifice, The hotar, lavishest of wealth.1. Worthy is Agni to be praised by living as by ancient seers. He shall bring hitherward the Gods.2 Through Agni man obtaineth wealth, yea, plenty waxing day by day. Most rich in heroes, glorious.3 Agni, the perfect sacrifice which thou encompassest about. Verily goeth to the Gods.4 May Agni, sapient-minded Priest, truthful, most gloriously great. The God, come hither with the Gods.5 Whatever blessing, Agni, thou wilt grant unto thy worshiper. That, Aṅgiras, is indeed thy truth.6 To thee, dispeller of the night, O Agni, day by day with prayer. Bringing thee reverence, we come.7 Ruler of sacrifices, guard of Law eternal, radiant One. Increasing in thine own abode.8 Be to us easy of approach, even as a father to his son. Agni, be with us for our weal.9

Pray Agni the receiver, holder and distributor of energy, which leads to victory of devta and wealth to the performer of yagye. The ancient seekers prayed Agni, so can the present. It holds the divine benefits in itself.2 Agni helps obtaining, possessing and enjoying fame and power, which as a rule continues to increase day by day.3 That which is given in oblation to Agni for divine during yagye, certainly reaches the devta.4 The sound which is made (mantr) according to correct pronunciation (phonetic rules) before Agni goes to the supreme energy of the devta.5 That results which you Agni create and delivers on hearing, is received in truth by the doer6. I bow to you Agni, which day by day removes toxins (negativities) and eliminates errors.7 It (Agni) wears the secret, which governs the immortality and Self existence.8 Like a father hugs his son, so you (Agni) envelop the Self.9
